Girls Who Code Club

The Girls Who Code Club is a brand new activity for Orchard Place Elementary School students to participate in this year!

On this particular the students learned about Ms. Grace Hopper, a US Navy admiral and pioneer in computer science in the early 1900s.

After the presentation the students were asked to think about how they could make something in their school easier for other people to use.

They collaborated with their table peers and then shared their ideas with the rest of the group.

For their coding activity the students learned how to add, move and code multiple "sprites," or smaller 2D images that are placed on a background image.

The students all started with the same bedroom scene and then they had to build code to animate a character within the scene.

They were then free to experiment and see what else they could code into the scene.

Some students made their characters sing a song, while others added more characters to the scene coding them to interact with one another.

They worked together and helped each other when there were questions.
