Global School Play Day

Global School Play Day
Orchard Place

Orchard Place recently celebrated Global School Play Day, a day in which students can play freely without the use of screens.

The idea behind Global School Play Day is to let children explore their creativity, problem-solving skills and social interactions in a spontaneous environment.

Principal Jennifer Bautista said that staff chose this opportunity as a celebration of the completion of recent school-wide testing and the 2,000 Eagle Bucks earned in the month of January for S.O.A.R. behaviors!

The students had an opportunity to participate in various activities throughout different rooms and spaces in the school that day.

For example, in the Library Media Center students worked on building different items with STEM kits.

There was also a room available that day for painting and working on math coloring sheets.

Global School Play Day began in 2015 by a group of educators who saw the lack of unstructured play in schools due to an increasing focus on standardized testing and academic pressures.

The first Global School Play Day took place on February 4, 2015, and involved more than 65,000 students from around the world.

Over the years, the event has gained momentum, with an increasing number of schools and educators participating each year.
