Miss Illinois, a CU and CMS Alum, Visits OP!

Orchard Place

Orchard Place Elementary School students were treated to a visit from Miss Illinois, Nikolina Vujcic.

Miss Vujcic knows District 62 very well, as she is a proud graduate of Cumberland Elementary School and Chippewa Middle School, as well as a graduate of Maine West High School.

She teamed up with the staff and students of Orchard Place to collect donations for the children and families of Lutheran General Hospital's Department of Pediatrics where she works as a nurse.

The morning started with an assembly in which Miss Vujcic spoke about courage and resilience.

She asked the students to describe courage in their own words, and then spoke about the meaning of resilience.

She then presented the students with a few difference scenarios and asked them if the story was about courage or resilience.

Miss Vujcic then demonstrated her "power pose," and asked all of the students to stand up and do it as well.

She told the students that her "power pose" helps her if she is nervous about something and it also helps put her in a better mood.

The students had a fun time trying out the pose.

The assembly ended with the students asking her questions and they were excited to have their picture taken with her.

Thank you to all who generously donated supplies to Lutheran General Pediatrics! It will make a difference!
