Pastel Pumpkin Project

Pastel Pumpkin Project
Orchard Place

Orchard Place Elementary School second graders have been busy creating oil pastel pumpkins in Ms. Phalen's art class.

After going over the objective of the project, the students grabbed their aprons and materials to start working on their pumpkins.

Ms. Phalen asked the students to follow along with her as she drew lines of grass at the bottom of the pumpkin.

She started with a set of light green lines, moving on to darker green lines and then finally the last set of lines she drew were black.

The students then used the pastel crayons to trace the pencil lines of their pumpkins to make the colors pop.

Ms. Phalen placed a bowl of oil on each of their tables and showed them how to apply the oil to their artwork.

The technique involved applying the oil slowly and with very little pressure.

Once the students were done with their creation, they took a picture of it with their iPads.

They then put their masterpieces on the drying rack and cleaned up their tables.

The students were excited with their seasonal creations!
