Orchard Place
Therapy dog Striker and his owners, Gretchen and Dennis, visit Orchard Place Elementary School students every week to help them improve their reading skills.
Mr. Dennis visits the students in the library media center every Friday morning and his wife, Ms. Gretchen, visits students every Wednesday.
Students practice reading to them and their certified therapy dog Striker who is by their side.
When the students are finished practicing their excerpts they pet and cuddle Striker.
The students love to see Striker each week and enjoy his company while practicing their reading.
Research has shown that reading aloud to therapy dogs helps students boost self-confidence, reduce anxiety and build a more positive association with reading.
