Students in Mrs. DeStefano's class had a fantastic time launching their own "Donut Shop" for an economics project.

While learning how businesses operate and generate profit, students had the opportunity to run a completely student-led venture.

They designed a variety of donuts—including plain glazed, strawberry iced, chocolate iced, specialty, and mini donuts—which they constructed and decorated themselves.

As customers (teachers and students) arrived, they were given a wallet with "money" in it and the class greeted them with a warm, “Welcome to the Donut Shop!” Before taking orders, one student would mark selections on a custom-designed dry-erase menu.

This order was then passed to a second student, who boxed the donuts for the customer.

In the final step, a student cashier totaled the costs, processed payments, and provided change.

By rotating through these roles, every student gained hands-on experience in each part of the process.

The shop was a successful way for students to see firsthand how a business functions while sharpening their social and math skills.
